CHITTAGONG: Chittagong mayor AJM Nasir Uddin today said that the corporation will not tolerate any kind of corruption and politicisation in terms of development works undertaken by the corporation.
The city mayor said this while addressing a civic gathering at Engineers Institutes here this afternoon.
Chittagong mayor convened the gathering to appraise eminent citizens and elites of the development work undertaken by Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) in the fiscal 2016-17.
Terming the solution to water-logging problem as a challenging and long-time issue, the mayor said the city is affected by unusual flood because of the rise of sea level in the last years.
"According CDA Master Plan of 1995, the sea level will increase to 4.8 metres within 50 years (2045). But this year the sea level has increased to 4.54 metres", the mayor pointed out saying that experts' forecast in this regard came into vain.
Regarding demolition of illegal structures on canals and riverside in the city, Nasir said the CCC would not spare anybody in eviction drives.
He also emphasised on a strong coordination among different public utility organisations including CDA and WASA and said he wants to attach utmost importance on removing water logging problem within the frame of law.
Members of Parliament Wasika Aysha Khan, and Sabiha Musa, president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mahbubul Alam, former president of Chittagong Press Club (CPC) Ali Abbas, president of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) Reaz Haidar Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Medical association, Chittagong chapter Dr Moujibul Hoque Khan, district Muktijuddha Commander Shahab Uddin, Beer Chattagram Moncho editor Syed Omor Faruk and CPC joint Secretary Chowdhury Farid, among others, addressed the meeting.
